About Dr. Laura Hughes:
Dr. Laura Hughes is an award-winning PhD researcher and Naturopathic Doctor, but she’s not your typical academic or practitioner. In this episode, Laura talked a lot about epigenetic and explains epigenetics in simple terms. It’s the study of how your behaviors and environment can cause changes that affect the way your genes work.
Laura dives in with explaining how epigenetics reveals that our health outcomes are not solely determined by our genetic makeup. Instead, gene expression can be influenced by environmental factors such as diet, stress, and exposure to toxins.
We have a discussion on how using essential oils, like peppermint and cedarwood, can positively impact gene expression and revolutionize health beyond supplements. DoTERRA Essential Oils’ research on specific blends was highlighted.
Laura recommends eliminating toxins (which are prevalent in so many products we use) as well as having a healthy, clean diet which epigenetically empower menopause. Laura cites a book by Dr. Marisa Snyder’s on using essential oils for menopause symptoms which can empower women in all stages of menopause.
Laura then turns her focus to her passion in empowering self-care through understanding our designed connection to nature. Laura shares how daily self-care compounds over time and is an essential element that contributes to our overall health and wellbeing.
Laura gives us some natural solutions for sleep. Lavender and cedarwood essential oils applied before bed were suggested to calm the nervous system and promote restful sleep, with Copaiba also noted for its relaxing properties.
