What We Discuss In This Episode:
Health and wellness became a passion because of my own struggles. I learned the hard way that bad habits produce bad health. I spent many years yo-yo dieting – and we all know where that leads, right? And it’s certainly not to good health. So, when you hear me talk about “diet” as I may do today, it’s about the healthy way of eating – the kind of food that we eat – that makes up our diet or healthy lifestyle. I learned to get out what I call that “diet mentality” and choose a healthy lifestyle instead.
In this episode, we’ll talk about some of the basic things relating to creating a healthy life for yourself – some of the basic, easy to create, healthy habits – because they’re the foundation for living that healthy life.
There are many aspects of living a healthy life – and many more reasons why we want to achieve that optimal health. But it’s important to remember that ….
SMALL STEPS = BIG CHANGES
Today, we’ll look at 3 things:
- MINDSET –that’s one of the biggest solutions we don’t think about so often.
- SELF CARE – because I believe Health Care is Self-Care
- MOVEMENT AND EXERCISE – because this is sooo good for our overall health.
MINDSET AFFECTS EVERYTHING
Many of us are so conditioned to focus on the ‘what if I fail’ thoughts and have the ‘I could never do that’ mindset which of course, stops us from reaching our goals.
The truth is that you are who and what you tell yourself you are, not what anyone else tells you.
Here’s why you’ll want to shift out of excuse mindset and INTO a Solution-Oriented Winning one: It’s YOUR life. It’s Your health. It’s YOUR body. It’s your longevity… Ultimately, your happiness and satisfaction are what’s at stake.
It all starts with your mindset and there’s no one else responsible for your success except you!
Taking that first huge step of getting your mindset where it needs to be and setting some goals, start taking some steps today that will create the positive, strong mindset you need.
HEALTH CARE = SELF CARE
We all MAKE the time for what’s important – and your health and wellness IS important. Time is our most precious resource – and we want to use it wisely to take care of ourselves.
Self-care, self-love, self-support, self-nurturing … whatever you want to call it, it’s the very BEST investment you can make for your physical, mental, and emotional health and wellbeing.
And let’s dispense right now with some misconceptions about self-care: Taking time for yourself to relax, replenish and rejuvenate is NOT being lazy, selfish or self-centered.
Too often, we feel guilty for taking time to take care of ourselves. If that’s how you feel when you spend some time nurturing yourself, then it’s time to leave that mindset in the dust.
To make self-care super simple – think of it as something that supports your Mind, Body & Soul – your physical needs, your intellectual and emotional needs as well as your soul nourishment – what makes you joyful.
We all need to unwind & rejuvenate and replenish each day, but many people get so wrapped up in their busy lives that they don’t bother to take any time at all to care for themselves. Having a regular self-care plan replenishes and renews your spirit. It’s the act of doing something for yourself to support your overall health and wellness.
Another great key ingredient of self-care includes our sleep. We don’t always think of it in terms of what sleep does for our overall health, weight loss, hormones, or other aspects of our life.
There’s absolutely no question that getting enough quality sleep is one of the most important things you can do for your overall health and is a great way to practice self-care! A better night’s sleep can be achieved, and it’s not that difficult!
MOVEMENT AND EXERCISE
Did you know that that one little word, exercise, simply means moving your body, and it may be the closest thing to being the fountain of youth? There’s no pill, elixir or quick-fix remedy that has ever been developed or is in development that can give you the innumerable benefits you can get from exercise and movement.
The first step is DECIDING that exercise and movement is a priority and so you should be working other things in your schedule around it. If it’s not a big enough priority, the “excuses” can always creep in.
Once the decision to move more for your health has been made, the next step is to set realistic goals.
It’s not always easy, but once you get started and see how great you feel (and look) you’re going to love having that energy boost and how seeing great your clothes feel.
Moving your body more is part of achieving balanced health. And, whether you want to exercise to help you move better, look better, feel better and age better – or to support your weight loss goals by burning more calories and fat – the time to start is now.
And it won’t take much for you to begin to feel better. Try it for 30 days and I’ll bet you’ll start to see and feel improvements to your health by the end of the month.
In this episode, we’ve only talked about three things – but each one is a key ingredients to living a healthy life and being healthier and more joyful. But these are important keys: Mindset, Self-Care, and Movement – and we didn’t even touch the tip of the iceberg with these key steps.
Remember, we achieve that healthy balance in our lives one step at a time. We start by adding one habit at a time – keeping that positive attitude – being mindful of how we respect and treat our body, making sure we move more. If you are not doing any of these right now, I would challenge you to take that first step – MAKE THE DECISION. GET STARTED. Try it for 30 days, if that’s how long it takes for you to make it a happy, and then once you have one habit down pat, go on to the next.
Remember, this is a HEALTHY LIFESTYLE – no more “diet mentality.” It’s not about unsustainable deprivation – it’s about a healthy lifestyle – making those changes, one step at a time.
Life is a journey. One to be enjoyed. It can be exciting, filled with energy, and full of happiness and joy. Our aim is health, happiness, and a long, long life. And it is possible to live in better health. Remember, it’s JUST a DECISION.
