Welcome to 2023! đ
Donât you just LOVE that fresh, sparkly feeling you begin a New Year with?
For me, itâs the VERY BEST PART about celebrating New Yearâs.
This year thereâs more of a positive excitement in the air after weâve put almost three COVID years behind us and begin to feel hope for our future again.
This year I hope youâre making big plans for yourself â especially as it relates to your health and wellbeing.
Oh, we ALL know about those resolutions, right? We promise weâll do it all so much better this year and stay more committed. We plan to finally follow through all the way to the ACHIEVEMENT of that big lofty goal.
Itâs going to be different THIS year for sure.
Then, for the majority of us, life gets in the way. Things get derailed and donât go as planned.
Guess what this leads to? Youâve got it. Discouragement and then what we perceive as a total and complete failure. The wind gets blown right out of your sails and what happens next?
You give up.
Guess what? You are NOT a failure, and it doesnât have to be that way THIS year!
I have some helpful tips laid out below, and if you add them to your daily routine, you WILL end this year feeling accomplished, motivated and like a winner â because thatâs exactly what you are!
Are you ready? Letâs goâŠ
Create Goals in a Way that Sets You Up for the WIN
First of all, to make your goals reachable, you should also make them attainable.
There are probably a lot of things you want to accomplish this year. And hereâs the key: choosing the right ones will put you on the path to success.
Create a list of things you truly want to accomplish.
Hereâs How to Create YOUR List:
What are your top 5 goals for 2023?
- How many goals can you set out to accomplish comfortably, without over-extending yourself?
- What do you want most out of the year ahead?
- Put Your Goals on Paper
Write a list of what you want to accomplish this year and place it somewhere visible, such as on your bathroom mirror or your refrigerator door. You want to be able to see your list so itâll help you stay focused on what it is youâre aiming for.
RememberâŠdonât overextend yourself. While there may be 20 things you want to get done this year, start by picking one or two things to work toward at a time. As you accomplish them, cross it off your list of 5 and move onto the next.
Accountability is Key
Share your goals with someone you trust.
When you tell a trusted friend, family member, or even a trusted Health Coach (like me) about your goals, itâs helping you stay accountable. Check in regularly to evaluate how itâs going. Whatâs working? What needs adjusting?
And be honest. I know itâs hard sometimes. You feel like youâre baring your soul, right? But it is important to tell the truth when you check in. (No judgment here.)
If you havenât been on track as planned, this is the exact reason why you should have that accountability partner. Itâs an opportunity to reevaluate and adjust along the way. Devise a new plan of action to reach your goals as you need to.
Trial and error is a normal part of this process. The first plan you make may not work out as you hoped. But instead of thinking of it negatively, switch it around and think of it as an opportunity to find the right path to success.
One Step at a Time
When you start off with your resolutions and begin to work toward your goal(s), start with baby steps.
Maybe your goal is to lose 20 pounds in six months. Instead of changing your diet completely overnight, decide to add in one healthy food this week. Next, try eliminating or reducing a sugary food you like. Following that, add more water to your daily intake.
When you take âbaby stepsâ like these, it will help you ease into reaching your goals and will successfully begin new habits.
Change is a process, not a race. Pace yourself for success!
Hereâs where you come in â your plan for success.
What are three small steps you can take to get on your desired path?
Be Compassionate With Yourself
If your plan isnât working out as you hoped, donât fret, worry or give up. Ask yourself why. Think about whatâs not working out so you can adjust your course of action.
It could be as simple as re-planning your goal to fit your schedule better. Allow yourself some wiggle room to figure out what works best for you.
What’s Your Action Plan?
Your Action Plan:
- Whatâs your plan of action?
- How will you know youâre getting off track?
- What will you do to correct your course?
- How can you stay positive when things donât go as planned?
Positive Thinking is a Game-Changer
I know it almost sounds too simple, but thinking positively can mean the difference between success and failure. Keeping a positive mindset even during a setback (and you can bet there will be setbacks) will help you pick yourself up and find the motivation to continue on in a new way.
Positive affirmations are a great way to begin your day.
Write down some of your favorite affirmations and place them somewhere highly visible. Say them out loud to yourself each morning as you begin to take on your new day.
Your Positive Plan:
- What are 5 things youâre grateful for in your life at this very moment?
- Keep a gratitude journal to help you stay in a positive mindset.
- Write down a couple of affirmations & put them somewhere visible
Your Self-Care Plan
Donât forget to take some time for yourself while you changing your habits and your lifestyle. This is another key component to a healthy lifestyle.
Try some yoga. When weâre highly stressed, weâre less likely to attain our goals and intentions.
Yoga and breathing exercises are a great way to help curb your stress levels. Try adding these practices into your self-care routines as youâre reaching for your goals.
If yoga isnât something you want to get into, then think about some other forms of self-care you can add to your routine that really flow with who YOU are.
It doesnât have to be a long 30-60 minute thing. Itâs something you can do in small segments throughout your day. For example, you could try:
- Deep Breathing
- Taking a break from your desk
- A positive visualization exercise to relax you
- Sitting & relaxing with a good cup of tea or coffee
- Reading
- Coloring
- Sitting outside in nature
- Taking a stroll outside
- A soak in a hot bath tub
- Start a gratitude journal
Set Up A Plan for the Week
- What are 5 strategies that help you relax?
- Incorporate these into your schedule to significantly reduce your stress levels.
- Put them in your planner so you get it done
