There’s something special about feeling the warmth of the sun on your face when it’s been absent for months. Spring breathes new life into us, ignites our spirits of “doing” and inspires us to create a fresh start.

‘Spring Cleaning’ isn’t a new concept by any means, but viewing elements of your life as something you can “spring clean” may be a new idea to you.

Spring is the perfect time to re-evaluate and a great opportunity to eliminate old routines and rituals that aren’t working for you and create new processes that feel right, support your physical and mental health and satisfy your soul.

I think of spring as a time for newness of life and renewal.

For me, it’s more about spring cleaning my life and finding more balance of mind, body and spirit than it is about spring cleaning my house (although I do that too). But really, I just want to get back on track with my health, enjoy more nature, and appreciate the warmth and aromas of Spring.

So if you’re wondering what you can do to spring clean your life, here are my best strategies:

1.  Clean and Clear

Woman Spring Cleaning

I know this is the one you expect this time of year, but decluttering your living space and giving it a good deep clean can change the entire feel of your home – and improve how you FEEL in it.

Renewing your sacred space can rejuvenate you in many ways, bringing a lighter, happier feeling as the sunshine rolls in those windows with the new warmer weather.

I spend a lot of time in my office, so for me that’s my Sacred Space, and it is SO rewarding to clean out all those papers, get a clean fresh look in my space, and feel the excitement of the clean, spring aroma-filled room.

So tuck away all those Winter clothes, give your living space a refresh and start Spring on a clean foot.

2. Finesse Your Fitness

Have you been doing the same old fitness routine all winter long? If so, it can get monotonous. With the sun shining, it’s time to get back outdoors again and breathe deeply that fresh spring air.

It hasn’t been monotonous just for you. Your muscles will need to get used to your new routines too.

Shake things up by taking a new class, try a new workout video, or jog, hike or bike a new trail. Take up a new outdoor activity or sport.

Not only will spending more time outdoors benefit your fitness goals, but the fresh air and communing with nature is freeing.

3. Remove Negativity From Your Life

Happy Woman

Have you noticed where most of your negativity comes from?

• Your mindset?
• Your habits?
• Your work environment?
• The people around you?

Whether it’s negative people in your life or simply bad habits that you’ve been meaning to finally kick, use this time as an opportunity to eliminate anything that has been bogging you down.

What comes to mind immediately when you read this?

Chances are, that’s precisely what you need to work on releasing.

When you’re doing the important work of releasing negativity, take the opportunity to replace negatives in your life with something positive.

4. Disconnect More

When you aren’t at work, aim to take a break from as much technology as possible.

Use the time to connect with people face-to-face instead.

• Meet your friends for lunch
• Try a new restaurant or coffee shop
• Read a book
• Explore a new area
• Visit a museum or art gallery

Do anything that keeps you from continually being glued to a screen.

5. Choose Healthier Food Options

Healthy Foods

Spring is the perfect time to give your eating habits a makeover, too.

Take notice of how you feel on a daily basis. Are you feeling energized? Sluggish? Exhausted by 4 pm?

What you’re eating is an important piece of the answer to the question of how you’re feeling. If sluggish is more normal than energized for you, start incorporating more whole foods into your daily meals and snacks.

Phase out the processed foods one by one, replacing them with healthier options.

6. A Better Budget

Woman Holding Money

Living paycheck to paycheck is an unfortunate reality much of the population faces.
This situation isn’t easy to fix, but there are ways to make strides toward being more financially secure.

Take this opportunity to review your financial situation and recognize where improvements can be made.

• What extraneous expenses can be cut?
• How you can begin saving more for a rainy day?
• How can you use your financial resources in a more productive and/or positive way?

7. Adopt Something New

If you don’t have a hobby, spring’s the perfect time to find something that lights up your soul.

• Try a painting or mixed-media arts class
• Join up for a cooking class
• Learn a new language
• Take up a new craft
• Learn to play an instrument
• Get a pet
• Plan a trip

Discover something else you’ve always been curious about. It’s invigorating to fuel our quest for creativity. Treat yourself. Find what fuels you and makes you feel alive, creative, and feeds your sense of playfulness.
