As you know, migraines and headaches rear their ugly heads at the most inconvenient times.

  • You may be in a meeting at work
  • You may be on a family outing
  • Maybe you are on a plane on a business/pleasure trip
  • You may be out Christmas shopping
  • You may be at the beach, enjoying what was a relaxing day
  • You may be out to dinner with friends or loved ones

If you are not some place where you can easily take something to ease your migraine, here are some maneuvers you can do for yourself which may completely relieve your migraine and/or headache, or may alleviate them short-term.

Try some soothing, self-administered behaviors that can help relieve your migraine and pain. Below are some examples for you:

  • Apply cold to the affected area. It may not be possible in the moment to get one of your cold packs from the refrigerator or freezer, but you can use a cold drink can to rub on your neck on head.
  • Massage your temples, neck and scalp. This is something that you can do almost anywhere.
  • If possible, depending where you are at the time, you can apply heat to the affected area. If nothing else is available, try wrapping a warm scarf around your neck. If you are able you can get a hot shower, or even use a hair dryer to gently blow heat to the area.
  • Try compression. Press firmly on the area of pain.
  • Try a self-scalp massage
  • Rub your temples, applying enough pressure to relieve the pain.

Stay well hydrated with water, and try to eat something – even a few crackers can help.

While these self-administered maneuvers may not always work, some will relieve the pain and tension for a while until you are somewhere where you can more easily apply ice packs, warm packs, get a massage, etc.

I always carry an essential oil combination with me which definitely does bring some relief to the head tension. If you’d like more information on this specific oil, please email me at lwadsworth@verizon.net.

Be aware of your migraine triggers. Staying away from those triggers is one of the best ways of preventing migraines.  Often there are a combination of triggers that can set off an attack. Common triggers are related to your diet, your body and the environment, which is why keeping a headache diary can be so effective.

If you would like a headache diary, please email me or post a comment on my Website so that I can email one to you. https://www.holistic-healthandwellness.com; lwadsworth@verizon.net.
