Turmeric Ginger Tea. Ginger tea alone can be a useful countermeasure with migraines, but when turmeric is added it is even more helpful. The anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties of ginger are ideal for migraine management. Turmeric is a great anti-inflammatory spice with the added bonus of promoting healthy circulation throughout the body. Both of these spices also aid with digestion, and that combination should help the nausea and vomiting that occur with migraines.
Feverfew Tea. Feverfew was originally named for its fever-fighting abilities, but it is often the top recommended herb for natural migraine relief. Feverfew tea is most effective as a preventative. Some studies showed a significant decrease in the number of migraines experienced and reportedly they were shorter and less painful.. It is not really clear why feverfew is so effective, although it’s suspected that a compound in the feverfew leaves (parthenolide) is helpful in that it eases muscle spasms and the constriction of blood vessels.
Caffeinated Teas. It is the caffeine in caffeinated tea that is so beneficial. When consumed in moderate amounts, caffeine has several benefits – rise in energy, increased mental focus and improved circulation. The latter two are very useful during a migraine. Also, caffeine has been shown in studies to increase the potency of pain-relieving medications, allowing you to use less. Black tea generally has the most caffeine, but green and white tea are good alternatives. However, be sure to limit the amount of your caffeine intake.
Linden Tea. The alternative name for linden is “lime tree.” However, don’t confuse it with the citrus plant with the same name!! The most valuable parts of the linden plant are its leaves and flowers, which are used to make herbal tea. It is frequently used to calm the nerves and ease feelings of stress which, as you probably know, is a common factor in headaches and migraines. Linden tea also has mild sedative properties, eases congestion (which is useful for sinus headaches) and alleviates inflammation. With this combination of benefits, linden tea may very well help you through your migraine.
