We are well into the spring now and as as we rush into the summer, people start thinking more about outdoor activities as well as taking vacations. I thought it would be timely to share a few tips I have learned when packing for vacation whether within the U.S. or abroad; short or long trips.

First and foremost, try not to stress about your upcoming vacation or rush the packing portion. It is wise to start early, make a list of things you will need, and take your time planning and preparing.

1. Snacks and Drinks

I always make sure I have an array of snacks packed. Something that is healthy and migraine friendly and something that will help me in the event I end up with a migraine. These would be things like crackers, rich tea biscuits, and almonds. I always make sure I have water with me, but of course, if you are going by plane, you cannot take water through the security line, so just make sure you pick up a couple of bottles at the other side of security.

2. Oils and Herbs

As I’m sure you know by now, I am a great believer in doTERRA essential oils. I have a few that have really helped. Here are a few you can pack – or even ask your sales rep. (or me) for a few sample bottles, so that you can put little bottles easily into your purse or carry-on.

Peppermint oil
Wintergreen oil
Lavender oil
DoTERRA Past Tense
MigraZap Magnesium Roll On
Ginger Capsules for nausea
Again, Peppermint oil for nasal congestion
Deep Blue rub for neck & should spasm& tension

3. Ice and Heat

If possible, take a bean-type heating/ice pack and eye mask – or even take a heating pad. Hopefully, you are going somewhere with a microwave or freezer so that you will be prepared if you are “down” with a migraine.

4. Sleep and Comfort Aids

I also pack earplugs, an eye mask, a hat and umbrella. I want to be prepared for noise, bright light and sunlight. Sometimes, I take a little pillow for neck support and, if at all possible, I take my own pillow as I know I can sleep comfortably and not wake up with neck of head pain. And don’t forget your sunglasses!

5. Paperwork

Don’t forget to take a list of your medications and any pertinent health information, including your doctor’s name and phone number.

6. Medication

Last, but not least, be sure to pack enough medication to get you through any unforeseen situations. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst, as the saying goes. I invariably pack Imitrex and come back without having to use it, but I have it just in case.
