July is here, and depending on where you live, summer may already be doing what summer does best: making the air feel like warm soup.
Here in Florida, the heat and humidity don’t politely knock on the door. They barge right in, sit down, and make themselves at home.
And for women in midlife, that heat can feel like a whole extra layer on top of everything else we may already be navigating: hot flashes, night sweats, brain fog, fatigue, bloating, headaches, cravings, sleep changes, and that lovely midlife moment where you walk into a room and think, “Why am I here again?”
Hydration may sound basic. Almost too basic.
But sometimes the basic things are exactly where we need to begin.
This month inside The Energized Healthy Women’s Club, we’re focusing on Midlife Glow & Flow: Hydration, Energy & Summer Body Support.
And no, this isn’t another reset.
- We’re not doing extremes.
- We’re not doing perfection.
- We’re not carrying around a giant water jug that makes us feel like we’ve joined a hydration boot camp.
We’re simply coming back to one of the most foundational ways we can support our bodies in the summer heat: hydration.
My Own Wake-Up Call With Hydration
I’ll be honest with you. For years, I didn’t really think much about hydration.
I grew up in England, where summer didn’t usually feel like stepping into a sauna. We walked everywhere, drank our hot tea, got on with life, and nobody was constantly reminding us to drink water every five minutes.
And let’s be honest, as a Brit, tea felt like hydration. A cup of tea could solve most problems, couldn’t it?
Tired? Tea.
Sad? Tea.
Cold? Tea.
Someone pops round unexpectedly? Put the kettle on.
But after living in Florida for so long, I realized my body needed a little more support than my beloved cup of tea could provide.
There was a season when I was busy, stressed, and pushing through more than I probably should have been. I’d start the day with tea or coffee, run around doing all the things, maybe grab something quick to eat, and then realize later in the afternoon that I’d barely had any water.
And yes, as a holistic health coach, I know better!!!
I’d feel foggy, tired, sometimes headachy, and a little off. My energy would dip, and I’d think, “What is wrong with me?”
At the time, I didn’t always connect the dots.
I’d blame hormones.
I’d blame stress.
I’d blame sleep.
I’d blame the Florida weather, which, to be fair, often deserves at least partial blame.
And yes, all of those things can matter. Hormones, stress, sleep, blood sugar, thyroid, inflammation, and nutrition all play a role in how we feel.
But over time, I began to notice something simple: when I was more intentional about drinking water earlier in the day, adding hydrating foods, and not relying only on tea or coffee, I felt more supported.
Not magically transformed.
I didn’t suddenly become a glowing woodland fairy 🧚♀️who never got tired or cranky. 💙
But I did notice that my body seemed to function better when I wasn’t asking it to run on caffeine, stress, and good intentions.
That was a big lesson for me.
Sometimes we’re looking for the complicated answer, and our body is whispering, “Could we start with water, please?”
Why Hydration Matters More in Midlife
Hydration matters for everyone, but in midlife it can feel especially important.
Hormonal changes can affect body temperature, sleep, mood, energy, digestion, and how we respond to stress. Add summer heat, sweating, caffeine, alcohol, salty foods, travel, and busy schedules, and it’s easy to become more depleted than we realize.
And dehydration doesn’t always announce itself dramatically.
It may not show up as, “I’m desperately thirsty.”
Sometimes it may feel more like:
- Brain fog
- Low energy
- Headaches
- Afternoon slump
- Cravings
- Dry mouth
- Dry skin
- Constipation
- Bloating
- Feeling lightheaded
- Feeling more drained in the heat
- Feeling “off” and not knowing why
Now, of course, these symptoms can have many causes. Hydration isn’t the whole answer to midlife fatigue, brain fog, bloating, or headaches.
But it can be a very simple place to start.
And I love simple places to start, especially when life already feels complicated enough.
Hydration Isn’t Just About Plain Water

Plain water is wonderful.
But if plain water bores you to tears, you’re not alone.
One of the biggest myths about hydration is that it only counts if you’re forcing down glass after glass of plain water while pretending to enjoy it.
Hydration can also come from water-rich foods.
And this is where summer gives us a beautiful opportunity.
Think about foods like:
- Watermelon
- Cucumber
- Berries
- Citrus
- Celery
- Tomatoes
- Zucchini
- Romaine lettuce
- Leafy greens
- Peaches
- Cantaloupe
- Bell peppers
These foods contain water, but they also bring vitamins, minerals, fiber, antioxidants, and flavor.
That’s what makes them such a lovely addition for midlife women. We’re not just “getting more water.” We’re nourishing the body in a way that feels refreshing and doable.
- A cucumber tomato salad with dinner.
- Berries with breakfast.
- Watermelon on a hot afternoon.
- Lemon and mint in your water.
- A smoothie with protein when it’s too hot to cook.
- Leafy greens added to lunch.
Small things. Simple things. But they count.
The Midlife Brain Fog Connection

Let’s talk about brain fog for a moment.
You know the feeling.
You open the fridge and forget why.
You walk into a room and question your whole mission.
You stare at your phone, knowing you picked it up for a reason, but now you’re just looking at photos from three years ago.
Brain fog in midlife can be connected to many things: hormones, poor sleep, stress, blood sugar swings, thyroid function, medications, nutrient deficiencies, and mental overload.
But mild dehydration can also contribute to feeling foggy, tired, or unfocused.
So before you automatically reach for more caffeine, try asking:
- Have I had water today?
- Have I eaten enough protein?
- Have I been sweating or out in the heat?
- Did I sleep poorly?
- Have I had more coffee or tea than water?
- Would a hydrating food help right now?
This isn’t about judging yourself.
It’s about getting curious.
Because sometimes the most powerful question isn’t, “What’s wrong with me?”
It’s, “What might my body need?”
Bloating, Constipation & Hydration

Now let’s talk about digestion.
I know. Glamorous.
But honestly, these are the conversations midlife women need, because bloating and constipation are incredibly common and incredibly frustrating.
Hydration supports digestion by helping your body move things along. When you’re not getting enough fluids, stools can become harder and more difficult to pass, which may contribute to constipation.
And when things slow down, bloating can feel worse.
This is especially important if you’re trying to eat more fiber-rich foods like salads, vegetables, chia seeds, flax, beans, berries, or oats.
Fiber is wonderful.
But fiber without enough water can make your belly feel like it’s filing a formal complaint.
So if you’re increasing fiber, make sure hydration is part of the picture too.
A simple place to start is drinking water earlier in the day instead of waiting until evening. That way, you’re not trying to catch up at 8 PM and then wondering why you’re up all night visiting the bathroom.
Not that any of us have ever done that, of course.
What About Coffee, Tea & Wine?
Let’s be real.
Many of us enjoy coffee, tea, or an evening glass of wine. And I’m not here to take away your joy.
But caffeine and alcohol can affect hydration for some people, especially when combined with heat, sweating, salty foods, or hot flashes.
A simple approach is to pair them with water.
Having coffee? Add a glass of water.
Having tea? Add a glass of water.
Having wine? Add a glass of water.
Eating salty foods? Add a glass of water.
Spending time outside? Add a glass of water.
No drama. No guilt. Just support.

A Gentle Hydration Plan for Summer
Here are a few simple ways to begin supporting hydration today:
Start your morning with water before or after coffee.
Keep water where you can see it.
Add cucumber, lemon, berries, mint, or citrus to your water.
Eat one hydrating food with each meal.
Pair coffee, tea, wine, or salty foods with extra water.
Drink earlier in the day instead of trying to catch up at night.
Notice your afternoon slump before automatically reaching for sugar or caffeine.
Add mineral-rich foods like leafy greens, avocado, citrus, cucumber, tomatoes, and watermelon.
And most importantly, listen to your body.
If you’re thirsty, drink.
If you’re hungry, eat.
If you’re tired, rest where you can.
If symptoms feel concerning, persistent, or unusual, talk with your healthcare provider.
Hydration is supportive, but it’s not a substitute for medical care.
Your Body Doesn’t Need Perfection
As we move through July, with cookouts, celebrations, fireworks, family gatherings, travel, summer heat, and this historic season in the United States, I hope you’ll remember this:
Your body is part of your story too.
It has carried you through so much.
It’s carried you through every celebration, every challenge, every ordinary Tuesday, and every season of change.
And in midlife, your body may be asking for a different kind of care.
Not punishment.
Not criticism.
Not another extreme plan.
Support.
Sometimes that support looks like a glass of water before coffee.
Sometimes it looks like watermelon on a hot afternoon.
Sometimes it looks like noticing that your headache, brain fog, or cravings may be connected to how little you’ve had to drink.
Sometimes it looks like choosing curiosity instead of frustration.
Your body isn’t failing you.
It’s communicating with you.
And this month, we’re going to practice listening.
So come join us inside The Energized Healthy Women’s Club for the Midlife Glow & Flow: 7-Day July Hydration Challenge starting Monday, July 6th.
Bring your water bottle.
Bring your tea.
Bring your sense of humor.
We’ll keep it simple, refreshing, and doable.
And we’ll do it together. 💜
Come Join Us This July

July is here… and between the sunshine, celebrations, cookouts, humidity, hot flashes, busy days, and “why am I so tired?” moments, our midlife bodies may be asking for a little extra support.
If you’ve been feeling foggy, puffy, tired, bloated, dry, headachy, or just a bit drained by the summer heat…
This month inside the Energized Healthy Women’s Club is for you. 💜
And YOU’RE invited to join us.
Inside the group this month, we’re focusing on Midlife Glow & Flow — simple, supportive ways to stay hydrated, nourished, energized, and more comfortable through the summer months.
This isn’t about doing another reset.
It’s not about tracking every sip perfectly.
And it’s definitely not about carrying around a giant water jug that makes you feel like you’ve accidentally joined a hydration boot camp. 😄
It’s about learning to listen to your body with a little more kindness.
Because sometimes that afternoon slump, brain fog, craving, headache, bloating, or “I just feel off” feeling may be your body’s gentle nudge for more water, more minerals, more nourishing foods, or simply a little more support.
This month, we’ll be talking about:
Hydrating foods
Water habits that actually feel doable
Brain fog and dehydration clues
Bloating, constipation, and digestion support
Electrolytes and summer energy
Small daily shifts that help you feel more like yourself
We’re also kicking off the Midlife Glow & Flow: 7-Day July Hydration Challenge on Monday, July 6th.
It’ll be simple, encouraging, and real-life friendly. No perfection required. Just gentle daily prompts, a pretty tracker, and a supportive group of women walking through it together.
If you’ve been moving through summer feeling a little depleted, let this be your reminder:
You don’t have to overhaul everything.
You don’t have to figure it all out alone.
You can begin with one simple, supportive choice.
A glass of water.
A handful of berries.
A cucumber salad.
A pause before the second coffee.
A little curiosity when your body starts whispering for attention.
That’s the beauty of this approach — small, meaningful shifts that help you feel more supported in your body and more present in your life.
And if you’d love encouragement, gentle accountability, and a group of women who truly understand what midlife can feel like…
We would absolutely love to welcome you. 💜
