Did you know that March is National Nutrition Month? For that matter, what is National Nutrition Month? What does that mean for us as migraine sufferers? I actually hadn’t heard of it until I came across an article recently.

Created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics[1], this campaign is for informational and educational purposes. It’s an annual campaign that focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity[2] habits.

Of course, as a migraine sufferer, you are probably well aware of the importance of maintaining healthy eating habits. Personally, I have learned the importance of healthy eating over the years as I have tried to maintain my health and lessen the frequency and severity of migraines. I have especially found that totally avoiding my food triggers has been pivotal in the prevention and changing the frequency of migraine attacks.

Are Your Migraines Linked to Gut Issues? In this week’s blog, we are talking about gut health and your gut’s relationship to migraines. I have taught classes on this issue before. Why? Well, I have noticed a direct correlation in my own life between headaches/migraines and gut issues. It’s interesting that there is now new research has shown that migraines may be linked to your gut health.

You may have seen articles and social media posts recently relating to gut issues. We are hearing more and more about this topic lately.

There is now information out there which links the cause of some migraines to “gut hyperpermeability” (higher than normal permeability of the gut or a blood vessel — permeability being how easily liquid and gas passes through something). This is a condition that has also been dubbed as “leaky gut syndrome.”
